The 72nd anniversary of the Great Victory in WWII is celebrated on May 9, 2017. The center of all celebrations is Palace Square, where you can see a parade with military personnel and equipment, and in the evening – a concert. Also you’ll have a chance to see a parade of ships on the Neva River, listen to the People’s Chorus of the Victory near the Kazan Cathedral, visit thematic exhibitions in museums and other events in different parts of the city. The celebration closes with a beautiful salute at 10 pm.

Immortal Regiment, patriotic action
Thousands of citizens and visitors of the city with photographs of their relatives – participants of the Great Patriotic War, will go on the main streets of Saint Petersburg on May 9. Everyone can take a part in this action. It begins at 2 pm. near Ploshad Alexandra Nevskogo metro station. The procession finishes at the Palace Square, where a concert is organized in the evening.

Music of Victory, concert
It’s a free musical event in honor of the Victory Day in the Alexander Park. The soloists of the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky theaters perform the best works from the repertoire of Russian classics under the accompaniment of the Sozvezdie Chamber Orchestra. The concert begins at 19:00.

Swan Lake ballet
It’s an updated version of the ballet on Tchaikovsky’s music staged by the Tchaikovsky Ballet Theater. The main difference of this performance is an unusual choreography (comparing with classical version). Dancers create asymmetrical and slightly fantastic images on the stage. The ballet tells you a story of a beautiful swan-girl Odette, and its ending is different from the traditional.

Life for the Tsar, opera
It’s one of the most famous works of the composer Glinka. This opera is based on the history of the Romanov family and a peasant who saves the life of the tsar. This patriotic performance is about the strength of spirit and faithfulness. The orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater under the leadership of Valery Gergiev performs the opera.

The exhibition of Marcello Lo Giudice
Lo Giudice works with the abstract line and uses special figurative means to represent the geographical forms and processes. Man-made and procedural factors are the core aspects of his art. He manually creates a texture surface, where the form materializes in color and the texture irregularities cast relief and shadows. His abstract works are metaphoric and become a symbolic analog of the Creation. There are no landscape features in his works and the images rather have a geological and demiurgic sense.

Capsule of Time, exhibition of Andrei Strelnikov
This exhibition is dedicated to the abandoned and almost destroyed buildings of St. Petersburg. A historian, member of the Russian Geographical Society and a part-time photographer, Andrei Strelnikov, tries to convey through his photographs the value of such buildings which save the romance of the past and the history of other people. Among the buildings on the photos you will see Brusnitsyn mansion, Vega mansion, Baron Stieglitz mansion and Russian Bank for Foreign Trade.
