Neuropunk Festival party
The influential drum-and-bass festival Neuropunk, which grew out of a series of podcasts, will come to St. Petersburg again and fill it with energetic percussion rhythms and powerful electronic basses. The listeners will dance to the rhythms of the famous festival participants on the dance floor of the club Aurora all night long. The participants of the festival are the real stars of this genre: Bes, Teddy Killerz, One by One, Rusty K, Gydra, Receptor, Cod3x and Encode.

Fatih Akin’s Retrospective film screening
A well-known German director with Turkish roots personally selected films that would be shown to the audience in St. Petersburg at the Aurora cinema theater. A few piercing stories, the main characters of which are Turkish migrants will be shown on a wide screen. Fatih Akin isn’t a pioneer in filming about migrants, but early the Arabs were only secondary characters in German cinema. Akin gives them the main roles and independence, which opens these characters on the other side. A special guest of the retrospective film screening is a musician Alexander Khake, who is an author of the soundtracks of Fatih Akin films.

Spring! Dreams about Russia Show
This show is an enchanting hip-hop buffoonery, a new experiment of mixing several stage genres. The basis of this exclusive show is Russian folklore, circus elements and modern choreography. The avant-garde team EtnoZapil is a creator of music. It performs folk sets by ethnic instruments and in other ways. The leading hip-hop performers, champions of Russia, Europe and the world tournament developed the choreography of the show. Spring! Dreams about Russia Show is close to a plastic theater performance filled with quotations and allusions. Folklore motifs get a modern sound and versatility in this show.

The performance “Rhinoceroses” at Bryantsev Youth Theatre
This is directed by Nikolai Roshchin and Andrei Kalinin and based on the play of the French avant-garde playwrighter Eugene Ionesco. This performance tells you about the gradual transformation of the characters, voluntarily, into the wild beasts – rhinoceroses. There is only one man left in the city, who wishes to preserve the human face. This character is a lazy and clumsy Frenchman Beranger. The play, created by the author as a farce and dedicated to the struggle against fascism in Europe, pushes the boundaries of time. It’s a philosophical drama with ageless problems.

The Opera “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” at the Mariinsky Theater
This opera is a performance based on the novel of Nikolai Leskov. The opera was written by Dmitry Shostakovich. Also he created a libretto together with Alexander Preiss, “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” is a tragic farce opera about a provincial housewife. It touches the eternal questions about the right to give and take life in the name of whatsoever. The performance lasts almost 4 hours with 2 intermissions.

The Concert of Alina Orlova
Alina Orlova is a Lithuanian singer. She has charmed the European public with touching ballads in Lithuanian, Russian and English. The spring concert of Alina Orlova, the star of Lithuanian independent scene, is held in a chamber format. The singer consciously gives up stage manipulations, electronics and accompaniment of other musicians. You will listen to only the voice and the piano and feel the unique creative energy of Alina Orlova. The program includes beloved and famous songs as well as long-awaited new material.

The Performance “Don Quixote” at the Youth Theater on the Fontanka
This performance is directed by Semyon Spivak. It’s based on the famous work of Miguel de Cervantes which was turned into a play by Mikhail Bulgakov. This stage version of “Don Quixote” tells you about a romantic-sad hero who hasn’t found his place among the ordinary people. Children’s simplicity and sincerity of the hero, unselfishness and a pure view of the world are faced with a harsh reality, full of materialism and pragmatics. The director and performer of the main role, Andrei Shimko, try to give up the stamps and labels, which the image of the hero got over the centuries, and want to emphasize the sincerity and kindness using humor, empathy. They created a world which is different from reality.

The Concert of Phantogram
The American indie duo comes to St. Petersburg to present its third album. Phantogram is a New York duo of singer Sarah Barthel and multi-instrumentalist Josh Carter. They perform bright, energetic and versatile indie-pop music, in which there is a place for everything from alternative rock and blues to modern electric r&b and dub steppe music. The duo cooperated with such famous musicians as The Flaming Lips, rapper Big Boy from the band Outkast and pop singer Miley Cyrus.

The Performance “Vysotsky. Requiem” at the Bolshoi Puppet Theater
The artistic director of the Bolshoi Puppet Theater Ruslan Kudashov addressed this performance to the fans of the legendary Vladimir Vysotsky. The action of performance begins with the end – at the funeral. Vysotsky appears in all his hypostases: as a poet, a musician and an actor. The action on the stage takes the viewer to the distant 80’s of the XX century. The director made a boxing ring on the theatrical scene, surrounded by a series of visuals: actors compete in this ring, and the story of the life of the main character is told by a male and female choir.

The Opera “Don Juan” in the concert performing on the stage of the Hermitage Theater
“Don Juan” is one of the outstanding operas of all time. The plot is based on the legend of a seducing Spaniard, who charmed every woman. This story was born long ago, the prototype of the hero Don Juan Tenorio lived in the XIV century. Since then, the plot has excited the minds of writers, composers and directors. Each of the authors showed his own view on this story, and didn’t always describe Don Juan as a cruel rascal. This is the Mozart’s version. He called his opera a merry drama, which combines tragic and comic, mundane and sublime. Mozart’s Don Juan opera is performed by the Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg, soloists of the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky theaters. Sergei Stadler is a conductor.

Exhibition highlights of the week
The exhibition “Dying, Stars Are Born” of Anatoly Izoitko
This exhibition includes the works of the Belarusian artist Anatoly Izoitko, a bright, talented representative of the Vitebsk Art School. The artist passed away in 2014 and all his works passed to his sister Elena Kovaleva in Russia. His art is a reinterpreted depiction of ancient Slavic legends and folk festivals, filled with a new life in the intertwining of fairytale and imaginary images. The ancient teachings, philosophy and Greek mythology are united in his paintings. His works are characterized by complex compositional constructions, color and tone contrasts, and extraordinary storylines.

The Exhibition “Fencing in Art”
The St. Petersburg Fencing Club holds a Biennale dedicated to fencing art on the first Monday of April for the tenth consecutive year. The exhibition discovers the works one way or another related to cold steel weapon. You can see the graphics, sculpture, paintings and photography. The plot of all the works is associated with swords, rapiers and sabers.

The Exhibition “Ikebana”
Ikebana is much more than an artfully composed bouquet. Each composition carries in itself a whole philosophy, emphasizes the natural beauty of the material. This exhibition showcases five floral compositions composed by the masters of the Ikebana Club. This association, popularizing the Japanese art of arranging cut flowers and shoots.

The Exhibition “Primordial Russia”
It’s a part of the all-Russian festival of nature, which unites talented photographers-naturalists. This exhibition also is timed to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vadim Hippenreiter. It includes not only his pictures created with the help of a self-made wooden camera, but also works of other authors telling about Sakhalin, Yakutia, the Crimean peninsula, Lake Baskunchak and other amazing places of the world.

The exhibition “Secrets of Leonardo”
This exhibition consists of impressive scientific and technological discoveries of Leonardo da Vinci. He made progress in art, medicine, optics, mechanics, military, and naval matters. You can see different models created on the basis of his paintings, pictures and notes. Almost all of these objects can be put in motion. There are also films dedicated to the genius of da Vinci at the exhibition.

The exhibition of Georgy Vereisky
The exhibition discovers the legacy of Georgy Vereisky. He is one of the classics of the Soviet graphic school, which continued the traditions of “World of art” (“Mir iskusstva”) society, and author of the remarkable portraits of the Russian artists. Vereisky created portraits, landscapes and genre compositions, using the techniques of lithography, etching, and pencil drawing. The exhibition includes landscape works that are little known to the wide spectator – images of Leningrad and Moscow, and its’ suburbs – and acquaints the public with the special features of the artist’s talent. It showcases about 150 graphic works – drawings, etchings and lithographs from the collection of the Russian Museum and State Tretyakov Gallery.

“Come in, it’s open!” exhibition-game
The masters of the “Artistic and Inventive Community” literally open the doors for children to the world of works of Alexander Pushkin, Lewis Carroll and Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Young visitors will find themselves in a fantastic space, filled with portal doors, allowing to look into the heads of the famous authors. Also the guests will go to the Writers’ Workshop where they can write their own fairytale story. They will have a chance to create a magical bird with Jacques Prever, study the old objects under the guidance of Osip Mandelstam and write a paper letter alongside with Joseph Brodsky.

The performance “Treasure Island” at the Buff Theater
This performance is a musical based on the novel of Robert Lewis Stevenson. It combines a sharp and fascinating story, funny pirate songs, original tricks and funny dances. “Treasure Island” performance tells you about the adventures of cabin boy Jim, who goes to dangerous voyage to the distant island together with the brave team. The treasure is hidden by the terrible and mysterious Captain Flint on this island. The performance lasts 1 hour 15 minutes without intermission.

The Circus show “TsirkUS 2.0”
“TsirkUS 2.0” is a great show made by the Great Moscow Circus (legendary troupe Zapashny brothers), which is performed in St. Petersburg for the first time. This show combines the centuries-old traditions of circus with the latest achievements in the field of scenography and special visual effects. It’s an attempt of authors to present their own vision of the circus of the new millennium.

Pulkovo Airport invites to children’s excursions
Pulkovo Airport opens regular excursions for schoolchildren and students. Tours on the air harbor of St. Petersburg are held several times a month. The excursions include a visit to the terminal, apron, terminal, and key operating service offices. You will know about the work of the screening service, check-in desks, and also go to the platform where the aircraft and airfield maintenance equipment are. A group excursion is available for schoolchildren and students aged from 8 to 17. Tours are paid.
