Festivals and city holidays
St. Petersburg VI Biennale of Architecture
This biennale is a festival dedicated to architecture. You can visit a lot of workshops, lectures and discussions with participants of the festival on preserving cultural heritage and future of architecture. The main event of this biennale is an exhibition of all kinds of architectural projects, already built or just planned. You need to fill registration form for entering.

Mass festivities will be in St. Petersburg in honor of the Easter holiday. The main events of the festival are at the Kazan Cathedral – musical concerts, opera and choral performances and broadcasting the divine service are held on 16th of April and a massive flash mob for everyone is on 23rd of April. You can visit a lot of workshops on painting the eggs and decorating Easter cakes on Malay Konushennaya street during the week.

Evening of one-act ballets of the Netherlands Dance Theater NDT 1
The artists of neoclassical Netherlands Dance Theater perform three one-act ballets in the framework of the Dance Open International Ballet Festival. These ballet productions combine plastic choreography, symbolism of dance, unusual music and metaphorical plot. Each of the ballets is special and not united with others, but together they are a kind of combination of several kinds of art.

The light show is dedicated to several topics: the historical heritage of St. Petersburg, Russian sports and especially football. A beautiful presentation will be shown on the walls of the St. Petersburg Arena stadium using visual, musical and pyrotechnic effects. The entrance to the festival is free, the main show begins at 22:00.

Concerts and theatre highlights of the week
The French director Charles Roubaud shows his opera on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater. It’s a story about the love of Prince Calaf to the princess Turandot, who hates men and makes three difficult riddles for all the boys who are wedded to her. A composer Puccini created music for the opera, but he couldn’t finish it. The ending of this version of opera is wrote by Luciano Berio.

The Storm, performance staged by the National Ballet of Poland
Polish choreographer Kshishtof Pastor and Iranian artist Shirin Neshat show a new ballet production based on Shakespeare’s Storm on the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater. It unites classical elements and avant-garde motifs. The peculiarity of this ballet is a combination of unusual music, visual effects, video, splendid costumes and elaborated choreography.

Melodies of Hollywood and Broadway concert
Famous melodies of Hollywood movies and hits of popular musicals are performed on the stage of the Jazz Philharmonic Hall. Young and talented vocalists under the accompaniment of the ensembles of David Goloshchekin and Peter Kornev sing best song of the repertoire of the XX century.

A Mariinsky Theater Orchestra performs a legendary funeral melody. Requiem is one of Mozart’s most famous compositions.

Theater. Takeaway project
It’s a project of director Alexei Ershov. It includes seven performances, which will be shown during the several weeks. The director mixes traditional and modern elements and motifs in his stage productions. You will see a documentary theater, and street art, and a free dialogue with the audience. The emphasis of his performances is on the lives of ordinary people. The peculiarity of the project is that the exact time and place will be known only in a few hours before performing and you’ll find out it on the official page of the project.

Splin music band concert
A famous and beloved Splin rock group performs in native St. Petersburg. People like the songs of this group because of the meaning of texts and the easiness of the melody. Splin band sings hits of past years as well as songs from the new album The Key to the Cipher at the concert.

Exhibition highlights of the week
The exhibition of Georgy Vereisky
The exhibition discovers the legacy of Georgy Vereisky. He is one of the classics of the Soviet graphic school, which continued the traditions of “World of art” (“Mir iskusstva”) society, and author of the remarkable portraits of the Russian artists. Vereisky created portraits, landscapes and genre compositions, using the techniques of lithography, etching, and pencil drawing. The exhibition includes landscape works that are little known to the wide spectator – images of Leningrad and Moscow, and its’ suburbs – and acquaints the public with the special features of the artist’s talent. It showcases about 150 graphic works – drawings, etchings and lithographs from the collection of the Russian Museum and State Tretyakov Gallery.

Look Differently, exhibition of humorous paintings

Shifting Metaphors: Cuba in Changing Times, exhibition
The exhibition features the photos made by the modern Cuban photographers and dedicated to the life of this island nation. You will see a view to what’s happening in the country in local residents’ eyes. It’s about the past, present and future of Cuba. The exposition includes not only photography, but also collages, animation, documentary shooting and multimedia experiments.

Best of West, exhibition
The exhibition “Best of West” is a photo exhibition of Dean West. The project includes photographs from the author’s series “In detail”, “Olympia”, “Church” and “Fabrications”, as well as several advertising projects. The universe of Dean West is a fantasy world that exists under the rules of the photographer. He makes his own mythology, balancing between the real and the imaginary. The photographer collaborated with Disney, MTV, Fox Sports, SONY, and other large companies. His works are included in the prestigious collections of contemporary art and the personal collection of Elton John.

Vasily Vereshchagin. To the 175th anniversary of his birth, exhibition
This exhibition showcases 220 paintings created by the master of battle painting and an ethnographic artist. Vereshchagin was a traveler who visited the Russian North, the Caucasus, the Balkans, Central Asia, Japan, Palestine, and India. His paintings reflect not only life in these places, but also the artist’s own impressions. The exhibition includes paintings from the collections of the main national Russian museums.

R-point, exhibition of the artist Grace Darko
The exhibition explores all types of the artist’s work: graphics, sculpture, painting and digital art. It’s divided into parts, each of which is both part of the exposition and a separate whole one. Harlequin, XIV All-Russian Festival of Theater Arts for Children
It’s the largest theater festival for children. This festival includes the performances of various genres created by theaters throughout Russia. You will see the opera, musicals, documentary productions, clown numbers and even ethnoperformances. Also everyone can participate in workshops and lectures of theater professionals. The jury will choose the best performances in different nominations in the framework of the festival.

The Beginning. The First Picture, performance
A director Natalya Lapina stages an unusual production dedicated to the history of the creation of the world on the stage of the Bryantsev Youth Theater. It’s a story about the first human who learns to live, feel, love and be happy surrounded by angels. The performance lasts 1 hour 20 minutes without intermission.

Cat in Boots, performance
It’s a cheerful performance, where the main character is a cunning and smart cat in boots. The peculiarity of this production is that the characters of the play can start declaiming Shakespeare or reading Pushkin with inspiration. Both children and adults will be interested in this performance because of the mixing the plot of children’s fairytale and classic works of literature.
