Festivals and city holidays
N.I.C.E. Festival of the new Italian cinema
It’s the annual festival with the support of the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Institute of Culture in St. Petersburg. 17 films both feature and documentary will be shown in the cinema during 6 days. These films open the world of a warm Italy and tell you about modern Italian cinematography and ideology of Italian beginning directors. All films will be presented in Italian with Russian subtitles.

It’s a Space Fest party
In honor of the great day, when the first man flew into space, several musicians will meet in Birja Bar club. They will perform their best tracks and songs and fill the space of bar with special cosmic music. The participants of this party are vocalist Masha Romanova, Besovsky Band and Platan music bands.

Dance Open International Ballet Festival
Dance Open International Ballet Festival is held in St. Petersburg for the 16th time. Dance collectives not only from Russia, but also abroad perform their best ballet. The unifying theme of all performances is the motto Know yourself. Among the most expected premiers is the Polish version of Shakespeare’s Storm staged by Krzysztof Pastor, The Virus of Naarin ballet from Tel Aviv and performances by the neo-classical Dutch theater.

Elena II International Art Festival
The current and graduating students of Elena Obraztsova Academy of Music, as well as professional vocalists perform at the festival in memory of the talented singer and teacher Elena Obraztsova. The festival is held at several venues: the Hermitage, the Gorky Culture Palace, the Music Hall Theater, the Baltic House Theater, the Alexandrinsky Theater, the Mariinsky Theater and the Shostakovich Philharmonia. The participants sing solo as well as opera performances.

Red Bull Iznanka dance show
Jack’s Garret team of street dancers shows a dance performance on the stage of Buff Theater. 9 dancers using the power of dance convey the feelings of a person when he expects great changes. All participants of this performance dance at various dance competitions and projects. Jack’s Garret team has its own unique style, which they carefully keep in safe, using non-standard music and incredible dance ideas of each other. The main feature of this show is a combination of the atmosphere of classical theater and street dances.

Women of Adult Age performance
A famous Russian artist Konstantin Khabensky performs on the stage of the Komissarjevsky Theatre. He reads humorous and philosophical prose texts of Alexander Tsypkin. The stories that Khabensky animates are based on real stories from the life of different people.

The concert of singer Tarja (The Shadow Shows)
A famous Finnish singer Tarja Turunen comes to St. Petersburg. Once a soloist of the Nightwish music band, she has started a solo career and recorded several albums in her favorite style of symphonic metal. Tarja performs both her own and well-known songs composed at the time of Nightwish band at the concert.

A new interpretation of the theatrical composition of Erwin Haas, uniting the works of Dostoevsky, Andreev, Kharms, is performed on the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater. Olga Levkovskaya is a director and this is her debut as a director. Her performance tells you about the immersion in the depths of consciousness of the doctor Kerzhentsev, who is in the psychiatric hospital. Alina Tikhonova helps Olga to create on the stage the psychedelic state of the patient thanks to video art.

Three Sisters performance
It’s another performance of the famous artistic director of the Lensoviet Theater Yuri Butusov. Despite the fact that this performance is based on the Chekhov’s same name work, there is practically nothing from the classic in this production. It is a journey into the depths of the director’s consciousness, an art house play on the stage of the theater, a drama in modern society. And all of this is happened under the accompaniment of a variety of music, from classics to compositions of modern rock bands. The performance lasts 4 hours 30 minutes with two intermissions.

Semifinal of the Emergenza Concert
The semi-finalists of the Emergenza International Festival of Rock Bands perform on the stage of the Aurora club. They will compete for the place in the final of the Emergenza. The participants of the semifinal concert are ST. Petersburg bands Today We Are, GRAPE, SkippingRope, Ospen, AstroNomeR, The Mirrors, The Waves, For 5 seconds before 100, Human Catchers and Voronezh band MONTANNA. You will listen to a lot of good rock music.

It’s a new version of Katya Kabanova opera by German director Niels-Peter Rudolph which is based on Ostrovsky’s play. The Czech composer Leosh Janacek created the music for this opera. He also composed the music for other performances based on the works of Russian classics. The character Catherine is in the center of the play’s story. You will see how much her life has changed after her marriage.

In overcoming the gravity exhibition of the artist Sergei Mikhankov
The style of Sergei Mikhankov conceptually echoes the art of modern metamodernism, in particular, English remodernism and stakism. The paintings of Mikhankov are a window into the unknown, into some new mythology, often resembling iconography if it could exist in some parallel, artistic and dreaming universes. Some words and letters of languages that never existed often intertwine in his paintings and strange archaeological artifacts refer to the fabulous past or the unknown future.

Salvador Dali. Surrealist and classic exhibition
An exhibition dedicated to the art of one of the most eccentric artists of the world, Salvador Dali, is in St. Petersburg for the first time. You will see his paintings and graphic works from the museums and private collections. His surrealistic paintings portray both real and inexplicable fantastic world. The exhibition includes 150 works of the artist.

An exhibition dedicated to the concept of structure is on in the Marble Palace. This is a kind of discussion about formalism, trying to prove that “pure forms” will never lose their relevance in art. The exhibition features the models and matrices of different structures that have turned into stable plastic motifs (net, crystal, chain, etc.). It includes the works from the collection of the Russian Museum, the Novy (New) Museum (St. Petersburg), the Museum of Organic Culture (Kolomna) and private collections.

Capsule of Time exhibition of Andrei Strelnikov
This exhibition is dedicated to the abandoned and almost destroyed buildings of St. Petersburg. A historian, member of the Russian Geographical Society and a part-time photographer, Andrei Strelnikov, tries to convey through his photographs the value of such buildings which save the romance of the past and the history of other people. Among the buildings on the photos you will see Brusnitsyn mansion, Vega mansion, Baron Stieglitz mansion and Russian Bank for Foreign Trade.

Bremen Town Musicians musical
It’s a performance based on the well-known fairytale of the Brothers Grimm. The musical tells you the story of four homeless and incredibly talented animals, a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster, which go to the city of Bremen to earn some money. The director, Natalya Indeykina, based her performance also on the Soviet cartoon about the Bremen musicians, usiing a special style, music and mood of this cartoon. Adventure performance is intended for children from 3 to 13 years and it lasts 1 hour 20 minutes.

Wine from dandelions, or Don’t move! performance
It’s an unusual performance based on Ray Bradbury’s famous autobiographical work. A director Adolf Shapiro animates a childhood of the famous science fiction writer on the stage of Bryantsev Youth Theater. This performance tells you about the transience and purity of childhood, the value of memories, and the nostalgia for the past years. Also the director tries to show that children both in the United States and in Russia see the world in the same childish way, and it doesn’t matter which continent you were born on.

Instruments in jazz Thematic concert for students
The famous St. Petersburg jazz orchestra under the direction of Kirill Bubyakin performs for young listeners in Jazz Philarmonic Hall. The musicians share with children some secrets of music improvisation, tell them the history of jazz and perform the most famous jazz hits.

The Snow Queen Ballet
It’s a premiere performance staged by the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater and based on the well-known fairytale of Andersen. A choreographer Vyacheslav Samodurov created a sensual and touching ballet and modern Russian composer Artem Vasilyev wrote the music. Young visitors with the characters will fall into the world full of dangerous adventures and unexpected revelations. This ballet is a part of Dance Open International Ballet Festival in St. Petersburg.
