Festivals and city holidays 

International Festival “Brass autumn”

The concert are performed by soloists of wind instruments and orchestras of Russia and USA. The opening will take place on 12 October at the stage of Capella, 15 October – Concert in the White Hall of the Polytechnic Institute, October 16 – at the Italian palace of the Russian National Library (free entrance), The festival will be closed by gala concert at the Capella.

International Lyceum Festival “Tsarskoselskii Lyceum”

The annual literature festival gathers lovers of Pushkin’s work at the famous Tsarskoselskii Lyceum in Pushkin. The program of the festival includes exhibitions and literary readings, Lyceum Ball and literary-musical evenings.

On the birthday of A.S. Pushkin, 19 October, free admission.

15 October – 26 October

Festival “Traditional Museum in Contemporary Art”

During this festival, the experimental works of contemporary artists are exhibited in different museums of the city. This year, the event includes only museums of Vasilyevsky Island.

26 September – 25 October. 

Celebration of the Centenary of St. Petersburg Datsan

The higher Buddhist clergy of Russia will take part in the celebrations, that will include exhibitions and conferences, sports tournaments and concerts. This week we suggest to visit exhibitions in the Hermitage and Peter and Paul Fortress, the evening presentation of “100 images of Buddha” in the Kunstkamera museum on 13 October and a free concert in the Concert Hall at the Finland Station.

Festival “The week of the brain”

Professors, psychologists and graduates of Behtereva Institute of Brain of St. Petersburg State University, will present the latest news in the field of brain and psychology and will speak about the methods of psychological defence and other in simple terms. In addition to lectures, the program includes mind games, dating agencies, fascinating psychological experiments on humans, movies. The event takes place at anticafe “Foresight”.

Handmade fair “Copyright staff”

At the fair at St. Petersburg Sports and Concert Complex (CKK) you can take part in multiple workshops and buy clothes, shoes, handmade accessories, tableware, interior decoration.

Interesting performances of the week 

“Mister X” operetta

Action of the famous operetta by Imre Kalman takes place in St. Petersburg Circus on Fontanka embankment, which makes the performance especially interesting to citizens and visitors. Wonderful actors are performing in a splendid Theater of musical comedy!

“Pola Negri” musical

3D musical about a Hollywood star at the times of silent movies, performed by Russian theater and movie celebrities will take place on the stage of the DK Lensoveta.

Performances of Jacobson Ballet Theatre

St. Petersburg Jacobson Ballet Theatre will show its performances at the stage of the Alexandrinskiy Theater. An updated version of the “Swan Lake” ballet will be held on 12, 13 and 14 October, the “Giselle” ballet on 15 and 16 October.

Glenn Miller Orchestra Concert

The famous jazz band will perform on the stage of the Oktyabrskiy Concert Hall.

Harp and organ music evening

Musical pieces by M. Glinka, M. Granzhani, S. Slonimsky, B. Tishchenko will be performed at the Concert Hall of the Smolniy Cathedral.

Interesting exhibition of the week 

The exhibition “Roerich – revived paintings”

A new multimedia exhibition was opened at the creative space “Lumiere Hall.” At this time there are more than 300 works of the painter created during his travels in the Himalayas and the Altai. On many screens the paintings are presented in the ps3D format and accompanied by stereo music.

The exhibition “Petersburg datsan. At the centenary of the church”

The exhibition is dedicated to the first Buddhist temple in Europe – datsan Gunzechoyney. The temple was built in the early 20th century in St. Petersburg, later it was destroyed and than recovered in 1990. The exhibition is held at the Engineering building of the Peter and Paul fortress.

28 September – 29 November

The exhibition “Convent of Mercy.” The Art of Tibetan Buddhism

The exhibition is dedicated to the art of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located at the third floor of the Winter Palace of the Hermitage.

10 October – 7 January, 2016

“Divine Maya” exhibition

An interesting project by Museum of theatrical art dedicated to the great prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre, Maya Plisetskaya. The exhibition presents costumes of the great ballerina, and also famous couturiers work, created under the influence of her performances.
