Poetic Thursday in “Artmuza”

Each month “Artmuza” arranges poetry readings on a certain theme. Everyone can participate in. The theme of the first poetic Thursday is uncertain. It means that you can read any poem. Free film screenings in the club “Yaschik”

Club “Yaschik” invites you to visit free film screenings. There are film masterpieces by Luc Besson, Roman Polanski and other award-winning directors. “Wristcutters: A Love Story” by Goran Dukic will be shown on the 7th of February. This film tells about mad underworld, where a main character, a guy named Zia lives. The film screening begins at 8 p.m.

All-Russian Theatre Festival “Five Evenings” named after Alexander Volodin

It’s the thirteenth time when Volodinsky festival will be held in St. Petersburg. The theaters from different cities of the country present their performances. The program includes performances based on plays of Alexander Volodin and authors closed to him in spirit. A performance “Uncle Vanya” by Voronezh Chamber Theater opens the festival. The performances take place at the Youth Theatre on Fontanka, and at the Theatre “Na Liteinom”. A trip to Komarovo to the grave of Alexander Volodin will be organized on the 10th of February.

All-Russian Fair of handmade items “Authors’ things”

You will see a quilling, felting wool, embroidery and painting of ceramic and wooden items, decoupage, beading, working with polymer clay, and knitting at the fair. Russian and foreigner artists will offer you their works for sale and organize some workshops.

The concert of young amateur musicians of St. Petersburg “Free floating”

Musicians perform excerpts from the works of Borodin and Dvořák, an excerpt from the musical “West Side Story” by Bernstein, a suite from “Harry Potter” by Williams, the main theme of the series “Game of Thrones” and the waltz of Florian Herman. Entrance is for donation.

Opera “Turn of the screw” at the Mariinsky Theatre

Opera “Turn of the screw” of Benjamin Britten was firstly staged in Venice in 1954, and got the reputation of one of the most mysterious works of his. Now Mariinsky Theater invites you to visit this unusual performance. The whole story is told from the third person on the stage. “Turn of the Screw” was first shown in Russia in 2006. Opera is performed in English with Russian subtitles and with one intermission.

The Performance “Song of Songs” at the Bolshoi Puppet Theater

“Song of Songs” is an Old Testament work. Ruslan Kudashov is a director. He wasn’t afraid to stage the sacred text, and the results, according to critics, turned out to be very interesting. The main task of director is the creating of atmosphere. This performance is about love, jealousy and other feelings associated with the most important human desire – to be wanted and loved. There are unordinary decorations, puppets, music and actors. The performance lasts 1 hour 50 minutes without intermission.

The Concert of music band “On-The-Go”

Russian music band “On-The-Go” released its fourth album “Origins” in 2016 and performed it during the Russian tour. Now the band is going to go on tour again. The musicians offer their fans to choose favorite songs for tour in social networks. “On-The-Go” performs in museum of contemporary art “Erarta” with these chosen songs in 2017.

The Performance “In the ruins of own happiness” at the Komissarzhevskaya Theatre

This performance is based on satirical works of Michail Zhvanetskiji. The characters tell different stories from life that can happen to absolutely anyone. The performance is staged by legendary Russian director Grigori Dityatkovsky. The leading actors of the Petersburg scene participate in the performance.

The concert of Quintet “Amsterdam – St. Petersburg”

Quintet “Amsterdam – St. Petersburg” performs at the stage of Jazz Philharmonic Hall on the 9th of February. St. Petersburg and Amsterdam musicians come together in a friendly jam format, bringing colors of hometowns in their jazz compositions.

The Dance show “IDCity. The city, which is home for dancing” from the International Centre of Contemporary Choreography IDC

The International Centre of Contemporary Choreography IDC performs its new dance project at the stage of Music hall theater on the 10th of February. The German circus actors Anna and Saleh, project “Jockers” and students of IDC participate in dance show. Also the program includes the performances of participants of TV show “Tanci on TNT”, “Tancyi”, and “Tancuyt vse” and vocal numbers.

The concert of music group “Pilot”

This concert will be a part of a jubilee tour of music rockband “Pilot”. The program of concert is named “Dvatcatnichek” (20 years old) and it includes the best songs of Ilya Chert, front man of the group.

The opera “Ruslan and Lyudmila” at the Mariinsky Theatre

The opera “Ruslan and Ludmila” based on the fairytale of Alexander Pushkin is staged at the Mariinsky Theatre. Mikhail Glinka created the music of opera and decorations are made by sketches of famous impressionist Konstantin Korovin. Mikhail Fokine  created the choreography for opera in 1917. Love is a center theme of this performance. It lasts 4 hours 30 minutes with two intermissions.

The exhibition “Retrospective of brandrealism”

It is an exhibition of Sergey Shnurov dedicated to brandrealism. Shnurov created a new artistic movement named “brandrealism” and it focuses on structure of reality in which real things exist. Brandrealism is a critical attitude to brands that surround us, and the art. It fights against distraction of consciousness and supports freedom of creation.The exhibition includes paintings and art objects made by Shnurov for 10 years.

Jewellery exhibition “Treasures of St. Petersburg”

This exhibition brings together jewelers from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kaliningrad, Kostroma, Yakutsk, Ekaterinburg, Perm and other cities of Russia and Georgia, Armenia and Kazakhstan. It takes place in old Naryshkin-Trubetskoy Mansion. There will be precious metals, luxury watches, minerals, mosaic works, a collection of objects made of silver, jewelry for sale. An expert gemologist will work at the exhibition and he checks the authenticity of jewelry and gives a formal opinion

The exhibition “Byzantine visa”

“Byzantine visa” is the first posthumous exhibition of Gleb Bogomolov. He was a legend of the Russian non-conformism, one of the organizers of exhibitions in Gaza Palace of Culture, “Nevsky” Palace of Culture and member of the Association of Experimental Art. He created multi-layered paintings with using gold. He depicted abstract compositions, holy faces, crosses, and gladiators.

The exhibition “Alexander Pavlov”

This exhibition includes paintings of Alexander Pavlov. He depicted the nature, creating a unique atmosphere of warmth and intimacy. The exhibition showcases the works of his last years, which discovers the evolution of the author art, explores how his sketches became paintings. The exhibition “Alexander Pavlov” is held in the Marble Palace and includes about 100 works from the Russian museum and private collections.

The exhibition “Ice”

The exhibition “Ice” showcases paintings, graphic works, objects of decorative and applied arts, photos and objects related to “ice” theme. Ice of river Neva is considered as a prototype of the modern refrigerator. The paintings show battles on the ice, sport competitions on the ice or struggle against the ice nature.

The exhibition “Secret Society of the total greening”

“Secret Society of the total greening” is an exhibition including paintings of Suren Ayvazyan. He likes to depict flowers. Each plant depicted by Suren Ayvazyan has its own character, and emotional state. Also the exhibition “Secret Society of the total greening” is perceived as a call to think of environmental problems.

The Fourth museum photo biennale of contemporary photography

This exhibition includes the works of professional photographers who just start their career. You will see photos of different techniques, genres and stylistic trends in contemporary photography. The exhibition explores about 400 photos of 211 photographers from 46 locations in Russia. Also there is the voting for the most beloved photos of the audience.

The ballet “Cinderella” staged by the Theatre of Opera and Ballet of St. Petersburg Conservatory

A ballet “Cinderella” based on the work of Charles Perrault is directed by Oleg Vinogradov.It was already performed in several countries, including Greece, Hungary, and Germany. The ballet is under accompaniment of Prokofiev’s music. The feature of Vinogradov’s ballet is fact that the fairy tells about adventures of poor girl and her transformation into princess.

The performance “Africa Day” at the Bolshoi Puppet Theater

This performance is an interactive program based on fairytales of Korney Chukovsky “Barmaley” and “Aibolit”. The story of Doctor Aibolit turns into a chorus of medical staff, and young viewers can make by themselves the characters of “Barmaley”. This interactive performance destroys frame between the audience and the stage and children learn how puppet theater is arranged.

The performance “The Wizard of Oz” directed by Small Drama Theater

The play “The Wizard of Oz” is based on work of American writer L. Frank Baum. The director and actors try to catch the balance between child and adult moral story. “The Wizard of Oz “ is staged in traditional grotesque style of theater and will be interesting for both children and adults.

The Circus show “TsirkUS 2.0”

“TsirkUS 2.0” is a great show made by the Great Moscow Circus (legendary troupe Zapashny brothers), which is performed in St. Petersburg for the first time. This show combines the centuries-old traditions of circus with the latest achievements in the field of scenography and special visual effects. It’s an attempt of authors to present their own vision of the circus of the new millennium.
