Military and historical reconstruction “Victory salute”

Concerts and theatre highlights of the week

The performance “We” at the Bolshoi Puppet theater

The play “We” based on Yevgeny Zamyatin’s work is a dystopia. It consists of two parts under accompaniment of Tchaikovsky and Bach compositions with participation of music group “Auktyon”. The director is Ruslan Kudashov. All characters of the play are puppets’ skeletons which are used as training puppets in Puppet Theater. The director by his performance refers to the irrational sides of human inner world. 20 puppeteer-actors play on the stage. The performance lasts 2 hours 10 minutes, with one intermission.

The performance “Hamlet” at the MDT – European Theater

“Hamlet” by maitre of directing Lev Dodin is a performance based on Shakespeare’s tragedy. A genre of performance is considered as “essay for the stage”: there is Shakespeare’s tragedy, texts of ancient European chroniclers Saxo Grammaticus and Raphael Holinshed, and texts of Boris Pasternak in basis of play, i.e. this “Hamlet” is based on several authors and sources. The Performance “Blue Roses” at the Youth Theatre on the Fontanka

This performance based on the play by Tennessee Williams “The Glass Menagerie” is directed by Leo Shechtman. It’s a deep psychological drama about a girl whose fragile peace is about to collapse, and she can plunge into the abyss of madness. This partly autobiographical story of the author is considered to be a classic American drama. Emilia Spivak plays the main role of girl Laura.

The opera “Rigoletto” at the Theatre “St. Petersburg Opera”

The opera “Rigoletto” based on the novel of Victor Hugo “Le roi s’amuse (The King amuses)” is a musical drama directed by reformer of opera Yuri Alexandrov. It consists of three acts under accompaniment of Giuseppe Verdi music. The performance tells the scandal story of the court jester of the French King Francis I.

Exhibition highlights of the week

The exhibition “Mariano Fortuny. “The Wizard from Venice”. Collector. Artist. Couturier”

This exhibition is a joint project of the Hermitage and several Venetian museums dedicated to designer Mariano Fortuny. It includes designer fabrics, dresses and works for the theater, as well as textiles, manufactured in the factory Fortuny in Venice, which still carefully uses the historical technique. Isadora Duncan, Natasha Rambova, Sarah Bernhardt, Lillian Gish wore his dresses.

The exhibition “Dreams” of the artist Barsukov Roman

The exhibition “Dreams” includes the works of the artist Roman Barsukov over the past two years. The artist tried to capture and depict his state and feelings, for example, when he is dreaming or observing the sunrise. He explores the moments when the mind travels in wonderful worlds, which are created by himself, and there are no gravitation in these worlds and everything’s possible.

The exhibition “Georg Christoph Groot and the time of Elizabeth”

This exhibition includes 150 paintings of artists who worked during this specified period of time. Its basis is paintings of George Groot. He is a representative of “Rossica” and a founder of Russian portrait school. There are also graphic works and objects of decorative and applied arts of Russian and foreign artists in Mikhailovsky Castle.

The exhibition “Sounds of the World”

This exhibition is an audiovisual installation of Francesc Marti. It consists of Raspberry Pi computers and fragments of films by Andrei Tarkovsky. The artist cut, processed and mixed images and sounds using the technique of granular synthesis of audio fragments and algorithm of random number generator. The exhibition is held within the framework of “Cyberfest” – the largest festival of media art.

The exhibition “Chinese Army”

This exhibition discovers the works of contemporary Chinese martial artists. It shows an inside view at one of the largest armies in the world. The artists create in different styles such as Guohua, pop art, neo-primitivism and socialist realism. Guohua is a very ancient painting style that was very popular in the III and II century BC. Now it’s one of the favorite styles of Chinese army artists.

“Letuchkina love” is a fantastic comedy of Robert Oreshnik directed by Vladimir Bogatyrev. It tells the story about teenagers, choices, freedom, and, of course, first love. The performance makes you change your mind on familiar things. It’s intended for children over 12 years.

The performance “Peter and the Wolf”

A symphonic fairytale “Peter and the Wolf” is one of the most famous classical works for children. It’s performed by the reader of the Mariinsky Theatre under accompaniment of the Orchestra, the conductor is Valery Gergiev. It’s intended for young audience and acquaints children with musical instruments. Each character of fairytale has its own “voice” characterized its tone.

The performance “Alice in Wonderland” at the theater “Music Hall”

The musical performance is staged by the fairytale of Lewis Carroll. A famous designer Anna German made beautiful costumes for this music show. There are also visual effects, choreography and, of course, a lot of songs in the performance. All these things make you look at the famous fairytale differently. The musical performance tells about the adventures of girl Alice in amazing Wonderland.
