The City Day Festival

Petersburg celebrates its 314th anniversary. Different interesting events are in different parts of the city, but as always the center of the celebration is on the Palace Square. You will see live performances of the opera soloists, choir and ballet dancers as a part of the show Classics on the Palace Square.

Zaliv III Music Festival

Singers and music bands from St. Petersburg perform the music from jazz to electronic avant-garde at the Erarta Stage. Among the participants is Giallo group, singer Olya Bravina, (nickname Silvercut), Artem Panteleev and Maria Majazz band.

Stand-Up Festival

Legends of the Norwegian Vikings, festival

Reenactors and all the lovers of the brutal and bearded men come to the Peter and Paul Fortress to celebrate the annual festival dedicated to Norwegian culture. Foreign cinema music, concert

The Olympic Brass Orchestra performs the best compositions from Russian and foreign films repertoire. The concert includes 14 music numbers, among them music from such films as James Bond, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Pink Panther.

Guilty Without Guilt, performance

It’s a performance directed by Oleg Levakov and based on Alexander Ostrovsky’s play. The plot tells you about the suffering of a woman – a famous actress. As a result she finds the strength to not give up and at the same time stays kind and compassionate person.

Eugene Onegin, opera

It’s a version of Pushkin’s play directed by avant-garde Andrii Zholdak on Tchaikovsky’s music. As the director says, this performance tells his own story, where the main themes are sensuality and beauty. This staging uses metaphors, visual effects and unusual stage solutions, which allow to show a modern look at the classical work.

Concert of Daniil Trifonov and Valery Gergiev

Daniil Trifonov is one of the most famous Russian pianists. He performs on the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theater in the framework of the Stars of the White Nights festival. The musician performs in the different parts of the world with the orchestras from Chicago, Berlin, Melbourne, Sydney, Liverpool, New York, and Philadelphia. Daniil play the piano under the accompaniment of Mariinsky Theater Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev in St. Petersburg.

Exhibition highlights of the week

The Voice of the Garbage Sea, exhibition

This exhibition discovers the fantasies that are born from the collision of world elements. It includes masks, assemblages, sculptures, installations, and video art created by Andrei Sikorsky. You will listen to the ethnotrans music of the music band Obertonnye Lydi (Obertone People) and see the performance of the choreographer and actress Daria Barabanova at the opening of the exhibition on May 25.

Photomanipulation, exhibition

It’s the exhibition of Chema Madoz photographer from Madrid. He creates surrealistic and even slightly psychedelic photos of the surrounding world. The author shows a new meaning of the things using metaphors, references, irony and paradoxes. He captures an idea of the things, and not their appearance. The exhibition features 119 selected black and white photographs of Chema Madoz.

Do not Switch, exhibition

This exhibition shows the art-works of 22 artists from St. Petersburg, Moscow and London. The authors try to understand the influence of television on the modern person and on the whole society using the art. The exhibition includes installations, paintings, graphics, mosaics and video art.

Structures Exhibition

An exhibition dedicated to the concept of structure is on in the Marble Palace. This is a kind of discussion about formalism, trying to prove that “pure forms” will never lose their relevance in art. The exhibition features the models and matrices of different structures that have turned into stable plastic motifs (net, crystal, chain, etc.). It includes the works from the collection of the Russian Museum, the Novy (New) Museum (St. Petersburg), the Museum of Organic Culture (Kolomna) and private collections.

PORTE exhibition

Midsummer Night’s Dream, performance

Midsummer Night’s Dream is a large-scale musical based on enchanting, wonderful comedy by William Shakespeare. There are three intersecting storylines in the play, connected with each other by the upcoming wedding of the Duke of Athens and the Queen of the Amazons. The performance is dedicated to the 450th anniversary of the playwrighter birth. It is full of songs, dances and acrobatic performances.

Elyon. Version 2.0, performance

Elyon. Version 2.0 is a unique performance in the fantasy genre directed by Igor Ignatiev. You see adventures of a young boy on a fantastic planet Elyon, which is the second version of our own Earth. This puppet show tells that you don’t have to be a superhero to do good things and real deeds. Fantastic saga is intended for children over 8 years.

A little prince, performance

It’s a modern version of the famous fairytale for adults of Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Dolls and actors perform on the same stage. Video effects help to create the atmosphere. The main themes of this play are the searching for yourself, the ability to keep promises and the taking responsibility for your actions.
