Bar crawling on Dumskaya Street

clubs and bars in St. Petersburg Russia

Though St. Petersburg is famous for its beauty and cultural life, at the very center of the city, on Dumskaya Street, there is a legendary territory of anti-glamorous and pathos-free time off. The main bar artery, full of legends and myths, you will find at the intersection of the Dumskaya street with Nevsky Prospekt. It is a rare place where local bohemia is side by side with expats and travelers; and careless young people have fun right next to respectable white collars. You can come here any weekday or weekend, after work or late Saturday night–it is always busy on Dumskaya. The absence of strict face control and dress code, contrary to the club area of Kunushennaya square and Krestovsky Island, makes Dumskaya Street a popular, free-for-all hangout spot. Just take your good mood, a smile on your face and enjoy! Now, I will give you some tips on how to pick the place that suits you best, or perhaps you will visit them all!

Morrison Bar

A good option to start the evening with. This bar has karaoke, a couple of sofas, a table and a considerably large bar counter. Laughing young people singing songs from all different epochs, contribute to the atmosphere of reckless fun. And it all fits in a 50-square-meter locale one minute walk from Nevsky Prospekt.

Chirt Poberi! (Damn it!)

Cheap cocktails complement the entourage of a Soviet-era communal apartment. Attributes of the 60-70s are everywhere: gramophones, vintage lights, and photo cameras. The locale is rather small, but that doesn’t stop its guests from having fun under the rhythms of boogie-woogie and old hits. This is a typical bar on the Dumskaya Street, where you can often enjoy a live performance of up-and-coming bands with a great repertoire.

Bar Quarenghi

This is a bar with rather cheap alcohol and strict guards at the entrance. In order to get yourself into one of the two bar halls, expect to climb many stairs, trampled by many hundreds of thousands of feet since the construction of this historic building. Subdued light accompanied by house and electro music fill the main hall. The dance floor sees eclectic visitors and in the corner, you can see couples of students in love. Overall, it’s a great place for a short visit.

Poison

A serious karaoke bar with a perky interior. Densely arranged tables, poor ventilation and multiple screens on the perimeter force music lovers to bawl well-known foreign hits. Poison is especially popular after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and sometimes so overcrowded and unbearably hot that you’re forced to move along. However, only a lazy one does not sing here!

Fidel

Fidel Bar is Dumskaya Street classic. Upon opening in the mid-00s, it immediately became one of the most loved places. The number of hopeful visitors far exceeds the capacity of Fidel’s small space. The interior is extremely minimalist with a long bar counter and a few tables. A must-have drink here is the traditional “Cranberry” shot.  The number of special guests who have visited Fidel is useless to count: foreign and local celebrities alike. A must-visit place!

BarBara

The next destination for a compilation of famous pop songs is BarBara, located next to Dacha bar with an inconspicuous entrance. Security always asks men to pay 100 rubles as a fee for the first shot. DJs and bands play here. The place is famous for its sybaritic mood thanks to guests, reinforced by too many shots at several of the above-mentioned bars.

Dacha

Dacha is the “Kilometer Zero” of Dumskaya Street. It’s where the story began. The bar was originally created by those who support Western culture. No use to read about Dacha, you should visit this place. It’s a bar as it should be: loud, fun and cheap! Newcomers and honorable frequenters – they are all friends here.

Lomonosov

A bar and club just a few meters from the Dumskaya Street. Lomonosov Club occupies three floors: a game room on the ground floor, a dance hall and bar on the first floor and two more bars and a dance area on the second floor. The public here is a very mixed bunch – young people from Dumskaya, foreigners, and frequent clubbers. Quality house music is mixed with commercial pop hits. At the bar on the second floor, they can make you a cocktail just by looking at you.
